Tudor Gatehouse clock

This is our handmade wooden Tudor Gatehouse clock. It is in the form of a Tudor period or late gothic gatehouse to a country manor. We had a few models in mind for this one, one being the gatehouse to Cleeve Abbey in Somerset or Bramshott Place in Hampshire. We love a shallow gothic arch of the later medieval period, so this was a lot of fun to make.

This was made in solid obeche wood, although we have used a variety of wood veneers for tiling the little roof. With the ornate brass chapter ring (salvaged from an older defunct 1960s clock) we thought these give the clock some satisfying highlights. The wood was finished with Danish oil, which let the grain pop.

It features a battery-powered quartz mechanism. The mechanism is accessed through a little hinged door on the back.

The size of this clock is 21cm tall, 13cm wide and 7cm deep. It can be purchased here.

Would look great on any desk or set of shelves. Do you like the style, but would want something a bit larger, or slightly different? Perhaps in a different colour of wood? Or based on a real building you love? Send us a message and we can work up a quote for a custom build.
