Our St Salvator’s Clock is available to buy here.
Our handmade mantle clock of the tower of St Salvator’s College, St Andrews. This was made in mahogany and has a quartz clock mechanism, powered by battery. We had great fun making the spire and adding the oversized weathercock.
St Salvator’s College was founded in 1450 by Bishop James Kennedy, who built tower, chapel and cloister for the college. The whole thing is essentially his tomb as well. The surviving parts of the complex are some of the finest buildings from Renaissance Scotland to have survived the Reformation. The spire was a slightly later addition: during the run up to the Reformation, when Protestants seized St Andrews Castle, St Salvator’s tower was used as an artillery platform. The tower was modified slightly in 1851, and this is the form we have chosen to make this clock. Essentially as we see it today, although we’ve enlarged the clock to make it a bit more visible.
The size of this clock is 66.5cm tall, then 10.5cm square at the base. It is still available to buy, have a look here. Get in contact with us should you like to commission another, or something else.
